Periscope for fast breeder reactor commissioned

COIMBATORE: A 10-meter long
periscope manufactured by Coimbatore-based Visual Education Aids (VEA) for Prototype Fast Breeder Rese tor was dedicated to Bhartiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam on Monday.
J. Balu and J. Ravi, Direc tors of VEA, said the 10-meter
long periscope was developed at a cost of Rs 39 crore in two-and-a-half years. About 20 people from the unit were involved in the project. The technical specifications were provided by Bhahha Atomic Research Centre and Bharti-ya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam, The periscope for prototype fast breeder reactor was de veloped indigenously. Most
of the components were made at the unit.
They said the periscope had capabilities of resolution of 0.2 mm line at a spacing of 0.5 mm for a target distance of four metres. the area It would sean of interest, zoom the image, relay the image, focus and rotate the image. The periscope had provisions for simultaneous viewing
through one eye pince and video recurding through an other eye piece.
Dedicating the periscope, S.C. Chetal, Director of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, said the Depart ment of Atomic Energy be lieved in self-reliance. It was working with the domestic industry for manufacture of several components
